What Is a Full Port Plug Valve?
A full port plug valve is a quarter-turn valve where the plug opening matches the pipeline’s internal diameter exactly. In midstream oil and gas, where even small pressure losses add up over hundreds of kilometers, that design eliminates the bottleneck that reduced port valves create, lowering pumping costs and operating expenses over the asset’s lifetime.
The full bore directly affects both cost and maintenance:
- Flow moves straight through without turbulence or restriction
- Pressure drops stay low, cutting energy consumption at pump stations
- Bubble-tight shutoff minimizes leaks and reduces maintenance downtime
Piggability and Pipeline Maintenance
For operators who run cleaning or inspection pigs, full port plug valves are essential. Pipeline inspection gauges need a continuous, unobstructed path to travel the full length of the line. A reduced bore would block or damage them.
Full port designs allow pigs to pass through for routine cleaning, inspection, and maintenance. This piggability is a core requirement for midstream assets where regular internal access keeps operations running safely.
These valves also handle thick fluids, slurries, and abrasive materials without building up or clogging. Where a reduced port would fail with viscous media, the full bore keeps flow moving.
Are Plug Valves Full Port?

Not all of them. Several plug valve configurations exist, including reduced port and venturi designs. Full port versions cost more upfront but pay off where flow efficiency and piggability are priorities. For midstream pipelines, the full port option is typically the only practical choice.
Some systems use 3 way full port sleeved plug valves to direct flow between multiple lines while maintaining that unobstructed bore. These suit junctions where operators need flow diversion without sacrificing pressure efficiency.
Standards and Certifications
PANS builds full port plug valves to international standards that EPC contractors and distributors rely on:
- API 599 covers design, materials, and testing for metallic plug valves
- ASME B16.10 ensures face-to-face dimensions match for system interchangeability
- API 598 governs inspection and leak testing procedures
Our valves handle pressure ratings from Class 150 to 1500 LB, covering most midstream pipeline specifications.
Why EPC Contractors Choose Full Port
For midstream pipeline projects, valve selection affects more than flow rates. EPC contractors and distributors need products that simplify procurement, pass inspection the first time, and arrive on schedule.
Full port plug valves meet those requirements:
- Standard API and ASME compliance speeds up engineering approvals
- Interchangeable dimensions mean fewer custom fabrication delays
- Proven performance in oil, gas, and petrochemical applications reduces project risk
When valves meet spec and show up on time, projects stay on budget. When they do not, costs multiply.
Why do so many projects choose our Plug Valves?
From sealing performance to durability, we deliver professional-grade solutions.
Working with PANS
Since 1985, PANS has manufactured over 3,000 tons of valves annually. That capacity supports large pipeline projects with tight schedules.
Waiting weeks for drawings delays engineering approvals. Long lead times push back commissioning dates and increase costs. That is why we provide:
- Technical drawings within 24 hours of request
- Delivery within 20 days for most orders
- Stock availability for high-demand specifications
